Inside the mind of a fantasy writer

Check Mate

Taking a contract with the Timbers, Morgan leaves behind the woman he loves to pursue his hockey dreams.  She watches her former love rise to fame, drowning out her heartbreak by skating at the rink. At the urging of a friend, she joins a dating service. There, she is matched with the hard headed Ashton, who falls hard for the talented figure skater.

But her new boyfriend has a big secret, one that will plunge her into a world she’s not ready for.  And what will happen when the now famous hockey star skates back into her life?  Will she take the second chance he offers, or will a threat greater than Ashton stand in their way?

“Look what’s happened because you were scared.”  He pointed to the ice.  “You were the best skater in your class.  You had talent, drive, but you wouldn’t attend a single competition because you were scared.  If you had, you could’ve gone pro.  You didn’t go with Morgan the first time because you were scared and you regretted that.  Now you’re afraid of starting a new life with Ashton.”  He spoke mockingly, “Everything’s so different and scary, little Gwenie doesn’t want to leave her comfort zone.  She’d rather run off and hide in the corner.”

    • I totally agree! As one myself, I feel more at home with a group of under five people or one on one.
