“She is clothed with strength and dignity and she laughs without fear of the future.”
– Proverbs 31:25
Let’s welcome Tina Marie Lees!
She recently released her first book, a memoir entitled Me. She describes herself as, “I am a poet that is rising from the shadows to acknowledgment. I like to express these poems through a book, individually, and on canvas. I aspire to touch lives through my words; I strive to become recognized.”
I got the chance to meet Tina when she came on a radio show I co-host called Freshly Booked. Besides writing poetry, she has her Bachelors in Biology. She has worked in health care for about nine years and is a Pure Romance Sexual Health Educator.
She is currently working on her second poetry book and also a novel. So watch out for those in the near future!
So stay put and get ready to find out more about Tina!
1. What genre do you write and why?
I write poetry because it is a means of expression of one’s experiences or thoughts in a unique and artistic form. It can set the mood for a reader and they can read it and translate the poem in any way they feel it correlates to their own experiences and life.
2. What character from a book you read or wrote would you love to meet?
I am a big vampire fan so I think I would love to meet Edward Cullen from the Twilight saga.
3. Why do you write?
I write because it’s a way of me to evaluate the many experiences and encounters that I have endured throughout my life. Its a way to bring about my thoughts and feelings in a way that lightens the heart. I write because I feel that there are things that I could share with others who share the same experiences and who could relate to my very thoughts, feelings, and ideologies.
4. Do you write for a living or still have a day job as well?
I have a day job. I’m a clinical technician for a cardiovascular office and I am also a Pure Romance Sexual Health Educator.
5. What is the best review you’ve ever gotten
Being a new author/poet, I have recieved my first review which was indeed lovely as it expressed positive feed back along with helpful criticism simultaneously. I felt honored to have my first book review to have a positive response.
Excerpt from Me
Here I stare into my own reflection
I smear the mirror for my own protection
Past my fingers I see right through
As if a hole in the wall I see to whom?
Who do I look upon within this face?
This person I see has left without a trace
To remind myself, I close my eyes
To re-sketch myself so I can rise
Re-opening my eyes I see this girl
Who has stopped her life from a hell bound whirl.
